Intermediate Melody Composing Course
With Joshua Goh and JC Pang
Led by composers JC Pang 庞家成 and Joshua Goh 吴周烁, this Intermediate Melody Composing course offers a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts. Our lecturers have collaborated with notable artists such as Lu Han 鹿晗, Della 丁当, Power Station 动力火车, Andrew Tan 陈势安, Keung To 姜涛 (MIRROR), Edward Chen 陈昊森, among others.
Designed for students with minimal music background or those who have also completed the Basic Melody Writing course, this program focuses on enhancing your melody writing skills. You’ll learn to create more polished and effective melodies by exploring advanced aspects of music theory, chords, and songwriting techniques.
Through practical exercises and the use of AI tools, you’ll build confidence and competence in producing well-structured and engaging melodies. The course emphasizes on the crafting of full-length songs with greater coherence and appeal.

Course Outcomes:
- Deepen Music Theory Knowledge: Build on basic theory to understand and apply diatonic chords and progressions, enhancing the harmonic complexity of their melodies.
- Enhance Songwriting Skills: Master the art of writing effective choruses, verses, pre-choruses, and bridges to construct complete, well-structured songs.
- Craft Compelling Melodic Hooks: Develop and apply techniques for creating memorable and engaging melodic hooks that stand out.
- Utilize Advanced Tools: Leverage AI technology to assist and inspire in the melody writing process, making the composition more efficient and innovative.
- Receive Constructive Feedback: Participate in feedback sessions to refine and improve their individual and group compositions, gaining valuable insights from peers and instructors.
Prerequisite:
Applicants are required to have basic music foundation and knowledge (able to play the family of chords in C and G) or have experience in composing melodies to attend this course. For applicants that are applying directly to this course (without completing Melody Composing course), please submit 2 demo recordings in MP3 format with the following details for assessment.
